Methodology

Methodology

We built My Perfect Smartphone to answer this question: which phone fits your life, and why? Here is exactly how we do it.

Our smartphone catalog is reviewed and updated on a monthly basis. Prices, scores and model availability are refreshed each cycle.

Catalog selection

We include smartphones that are widely available in major markets, represent meaningful choices in their price band, and cover both iOS and Android.

Models are removed when they are discontinued or no longer realistically purchasable new. New releases are added after we verify specs and reference pricing.

Monthly catalog updates

Our entire catalog is reviewed on a monthly basis. Each cycle we update reference prices, adjust scores when warranted, and add or remove models.

The current catalog contains 54 phones. Last update: July 2026.

The quiz — nine questions

Budget: select every price range you would consider. We apply a 15% tolerance.

Platform: iOS, Android or either. This is the only hard filter besides budget and minimum storage.

Size, camera, battery, durability: we use a weighted average to calculate the right score for you.

Primary use: activities like gaming, photography or work boost relevant score dimensions.

Storage: phones that do not offer at least your minimum capacity are excluded.

Scoring dimensions

Each phone is scored on seven dimensions (1–5 scale): camera, battery, display, performance, longevity (software support), durability and value.

Your quiz answers set the weights. Those who prioritize photography increase the camera weight in the score.

Size fit is scored separately if you prefer a compact smartphone or a large display.

Match percentage

The match % is a normalized score from your weighted average, displayed between 70% and 98% so results feel meaningful without implying false precision.

We show the top match plus two alternatives, each with specific reasons and an honest trade-off.

Limitations

Prices shown are reference prices verified at catalog update time — not live retailer quotes. Always confirm the current price before buying.

Our recommendations are informational, not personal financial or technical advice. Your needs may differ; retake the quiz anytime to explore different priorities.
